Schulman Lobel Donates Over 300 Backpacks for Local Students Before The New School Year

August 19, 2021

NEW YORK CITY, Aug 19, 2021 Schulman Lobel kicked off its first annual Build A Backpack program to assemble and provide backpacks and school supplies for children attending local schools in the 2021 academic year.

More than 300 backpacks and extra supplies were donated to PS 195 Elementary School in the Bronx, New York, Washington Elementary School in Trenton, New Jersey, and Van Nuys Elementary in Los Angeles, California. Each backpack includes pencils, erasers, notebooks, crayons, markers, and other supplies for the upcoming 2021 school year.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted education across the country, forcing many students and educators to quickly make online learning possible. For the 2021 fall semester, school districts are now gearing up for the return of in-person classes. However, many families are recovering from income loss and financial strains due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The first day of school for kids is important and can often be stressful.  Something as simple as new school supplies and a backpack allows these young students to enter the classroom with confidence that they have everything they need to succeed,” says Lauren Vasi, member of the Charitable Initiatives Committee. “Finding valuable ways to positively impact our communities is the reason why we started this committee.”

In addition to supplies, each bag includes an encouraging written note from the firm, with the hope of bringing joy and excitement to get back in the classroom.

Schulman Lobel’s Charitable Initiatives Committee organizes monthly volunteer events that support those in need in communities on a local and national level. The campaigns aim to deliver a positive impact, both socially and environmentally. Each beneficiary is well-researched and then hand-selected by the Committee each month.
